Dotcast
technology allows cable companies to insert a high-speed digital
data stream inside an analog TV signal. Both are then simulcast,
without the need for additional bandwidth, thereby increasing the
capacity of a capacity-constrained system. Signals are received
using low cost, all-digital set-top boxes that are significantly
less expensive than current digital/analog hybrid set-tops. The
inserted digital data is completely invisible on a consumer television
set, with no disruption to either the analog or the digital service.
TVs without a set-top box receive the analog signal as usual.
Our patented dNTSC® technology allows us to place digital data
at rates of up to 3.9 Mbps inside each analog channel. Each analog
channel therefore could carry its own parallel digital program or
other digital content. This allows the cable provider to add up
to 80 digital channels, without adding additional bandwidth. It’s
a unique, cost-effective way to increase system capacity and increase
bandwidth.
